Can I really use my old Mac?
Yes you can.
If you have one of the older compact Mac's then it is just perfect. There isn't much hardware related documentation around, but through reverse engineering experience and freely available UNIX sources it is possible to get an inner view of those Macintosh computers. In some cases even schematics are available.

What is possible?
If we don't use any parts of the original Macintosh OS or the built-in ROM's then we can do almost anything what the hardware can support.
A perfect choice would be a Mac SE or SE/30 which features a built-in extension port so we could also build customised hardware for applications like DSO (digital storage oscilloscope), standalone terminal, ethernet card for (uC)linux, flash memory for custom bootloader.

Current work
Logic analyzer board
The first project is also one of the biggest. Imagine using your old macintoh SE/30 as a full featured digital logic analyzer capable of sampling at speeds up to 500MSamples/sec. Additional an add-on board transform this board into a full-featured DSO
The project is based around Altera's new low-cost Cyclone FPGA family with internal PLL and fast static RAM for capturing the samples.
If you need some more information regarding this project feel free to use the "feedback" page.
